Implementation Rules on Evaluation of Scholarship for International Students

(Revised in October 2011)

      The ‘Scholarship of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics for the International Students’ is established to encourage and endow the international students excellent in both character and studies, and to inspire their motivation and positive spirit.

 

1.           Time of Evaluation

 

              The evaluation of the ‘Scholarship of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics for the International Students’ is performed once every semester year: new student after registration is qualified as a candidate beginning from the following year, the specific time being September to October every year.

 

2.           Application Qualification

 

1)    Undergraduates and postgraduates officially registered in this school have the right to apply for the scholarship (except for those who have acquired the Chinese Government Scholarship, the Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship and the School-business Scholarship).

 

2)    The student is not involved in the evaluation for the year if any of the following applies:

 

1.   The student has a re-sit record in one major course (requirement) or two non-major courses (required electives or optional electives).

 

2.   The student has failed to register as due or leave school earlier than expected, or is accumulatively high in absence from classes.

 

3.    The student has delayed in payment of his tuition.

 

4.    The student has been given a disciplinary sanction such as criticism in a circulated notice or a more serious penalty or other disciplinary sanction during the semester.

 

5.    The student who has been awarded a sanction more serious than a record of demerit shall not be involved in the evaluation.

 

3)    To avoid an over-lapped grant of scholarships, it is regulated that the student who has been granted scholarship under this ‘Implementation Rules on Evaluation of Scholarship for International Students’ shall enjoy either a semester-year scholarship or a single award.

 

       3.           Type, Grade, Amount and Proportion

 

                     Semester-year Scholarship

 

First Award:         RMB8,000 per student every semester year;

10% of all winners;

Second Award:    RMB6,000 per student every semester year;

30% of all winners;

Third Award:       RMB4,000 per student every semester year;

60% of all winners.

 

       4.           Evaluation Method for Semester-year Scholarship

 

The evaluation of the Semester-year Scholarship is based on the assessment of the aspects of morality and intelligence (Refer to the table below), of which morality accounts for 30% and intelligence 70%. Score addition or deduction depends on the actual circumstances, the maximum score addition being 3 and the score deduction limitless.

Evaluation Content and Criteria:

 

1)    Morality Score

 

1.    Clear in learning purpose, right attitude toward learning and excellent in studies.

 

2.    Conscientious in observation of Chinese laws, school discipline and rules, classroom discipline, dorm-room rules, library management and dining-room rules.

 

3.    Cultured and polite, respectful to teachers, able to unite classmates, initiative in care for others, helpful to others, strictly self-disciplined, lenient with others, faithful and honest, conscientious in care for public properties and campus environment, compliant to social morality and public order, and diligent and thrifty.

 

4.   Active in participation in various school-organized activities and public-welfare activities.

 

5.    Evaluation by the counselors, class teachers or course teachers.

 

                     2)    Intelligence Score

Intelligence Score = Course Average Score x 0.7

Instructions:

1.    Registered degree student (Guoding Road) shall meet the following requirements:

1)    The student has completed all the courses as prescribed in the teaching plan for the previous semester year;

2)    The lowest scores for various courses are above 70 (inclusive of 70);

3)    The attendance rate is relatively high.

 

2.    Registered degree student (North Zhongshan No. 1 Road) shall meet the following requirements:

 

1)    The student has completed all the courses as prescribed in the teaching plan for the previous semester year;

 

2)    The lowest scores for various courses are above 75 (inclusive of 75);

 

3)    The attendance rate is relatively high.

 

3)    Score Addition and Deduction

 

In general, the student should present to the Student Affairs Department the relevant certificate or document for each award won in an activity for evaluation by the Student Affairs Department.

1.    Addition Principle

1)    Individual Sport, Literature and Art Score

Municipal-level Individual Award: 2 Scores Added;

School-level Individual Award:      1-1.5 Scores Added;

Faculty-level Individual Award:     0.5-1 Score Added.

2)    Qualified School (Faculty) Student Cadre Score

School (Faculty) Student Cadre:     0-1 Score Added;

Class Cadre:  0-0.5 Scores Added.

3)    Competition Score

National Competition Third Prize and Higher: 3 Scores Added;

Provincial or Municipal Competition Third Prize and Higher:       2 Scores Added.

4)    Research Score (Postgraduates)

Refer to the ‘Teaching Schedule for Postgraduate Students’ for the relevant regulations on research score addition under the ‘Implementation Regulations of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics on Comprehensive Evaluation of Master Degree Students’.

 

2.    Deduction Principle

1-3 scores are to be deducted according to the circumstances.

5.    Operational Procedure for Scholarship Evaluation

1)           Operational Procedure for Semester-year Scholarship Evaluion

 

1.    Qualified undergraduate or postgraduate shall complete the ‘Scholarship Application Form’, which is to be submitted to the Student Affairs Department of the International Cultural Exchange College.

 

2.    Items 1 and 5 shall be completed by the class teacher or the course teacher. Items 2, 3 and 4 shall be completed by the instructors of the Student Affairs Department. The intelligence score shall be given by the instructors of the Education Department. The award and penalty score shall be given by the instructors of the Student Affairs Department.

 

2.    The Scholarship for International Students is officially granted after the public announcement of the evaluation result by the International Cultural Exchange College.

 

6.    Supplementary Provisions:

 

1.    The ‘Implementation Rules on Evaluation of Scholarship for International Students’ is to be executed beginning from the date of its announcement.

 

2.    The ‘Implementation Rules on Evaluation of Scholarship for International Students’ is formulated with reference to the ‘Implementation Rules of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics on Scholarship Evaluation’.

 

3.    The International Cultural Exchange College of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics is responsible for the interpretation of the ‘Implementation Rules on Evaluation of Scholarship for International Students’.
