Application& Admission Process (2023 Fall Entry)
Application Timeline
For September 2023 entry, we accept applications from January 1, 2023. Application deadlines vary depending on what type of admission assessments you are required to take.
If you apply for written assessment waiver, i.e., admission through evaluative interview, there are two rounds of application.
Application stage | Deadline | Notification |
| Round one (early action) | February 28, 2023 | mid-March 2023 |
Round two | May 5, 2023 | late-May 2023 |
Round two application opens immediately after the deadline for the previous round.
Round one and round two both allow you to compare admission offers from other universities and to wait until June 15, 2023 to make a final choice.
If your record and accomplishments have been consistently strong over time, round one (early action) may be an attractive choice. You will learn the admission decision earlier.
If you apply for Shanghai Government Scholarship or do not have qualification/exam results required for written assessment waiver consideration,
Applications must be submitted by 23:59 March 31, 2023
The Admission Office notifies applicants of their decisions: late-May 2023
Admitted applicants must reply to their offers: June 15, 2023

The format for the 2023 assessment will be as follows:
• Section 1: Mathematics (60 minutes) syllabus specimen papers
• Section 2: Chinese (60 minutes) syllabus specimen papers
* An applicant for Chinese Language (Business Oriented) is exempted of Math exam.
* Entrance exam arrangement may be adjusted due to the pandemic COVID-19 pandemic and/or Government guidelines and restrictions. It is very important that you check our websites for the most up-to-date information.
4 Interviews
Everyone on the shortlist is invited to attend an interview. Interviews help our Admissions Officers to get to know you and your motivations for applying to SUFE; they contribute to our assessment of your academic potential and suitability for your chosen major, while giving you the opportunity to expand on the written elements of your application. The most important tips are to be on time, be as relaxed as possible, and, above all, be yourself!
For applicants who are required to take written assessments, interviews will be conducted on the same day (May 15, 2023) as your written assessments.
For applicants who are exempted of written exams, Admission Office will inform you of interview arrangement via email.
5 Our decision
Following the assessment of your application, there are two possible outcomes.
A. You’re made an offer.
B. Your application is unsuccessful.
Admission Office will advise you of our decision before the end of May.
Most importantly, the Applicant Portal is where you'll view the admissions decision. Applicants will receive an email reminding them to check their portal and view their decision once the decisions are released. When you log in, you'll see a crimson-colored banner with Admitted/Not Admitted. Click on that banner to view more details.
Please note:
We may need to make changes to the format/elements of the application process, such as interviews and written assessments, due to the pandemic or any other unforeseen circumstances. Please check our website for the most up-to-date information.
